Lew Welch, Pitcher

American Poet ****-****

"Welch was a mad, hard-drinking Irish poet" who was mad enough to go "Southwest" as he put it in his suicide note.

He met Kerouac in the late 1950s and his poetry has been described as original, but, like Neal Cassady, his social adjustment problems probably kept him from meeting his creative literary potential.

Lew Welch is David Wain in Kerouac's Big Sur novel.

Welch played on the Dharma Beats squad last season. He's become an ace closer, just what the Pisces need.
