Rocky Mount (North Carolina) Railroaders

Rocky Mount Amtrak Station 411In 1909 the Rocky Mount Railroaders became that city's first professional baseball team. The team operated in the Eastern Carolina League (Class "D"). Despite having the notable American athlete Jim Thorpe on the roster the Railroaders finished last in the standings.

In 2008 Rocky Mount does not have a team in the minor leagues. The Carolina Mudcats of the Southern League play in Five County Stadium approximately 35 miles away in Zebulon, NC. But Amtrak's Carolinian, Piedmont, Palmetto and Silver Service (Star, Meteor) trains do stop at the city's train station.
