Chester Nimitz, Rightfield

Born February 24, 1885 / Died February 20, 1966
Admiral Nimitz graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1905. During World War I he served in the U.S. submarine force. In World War II he conceived the victorious strategy that defeated the Japanese navy. He planned and directed several key battles including Midway (1942), the Phillipine Sea (1944) and Leyte Gulf (1944).
In recognition of his strategic skills Nimitz was promoted to Fleet Admiral (5 stars) in 1944. He is also one of the signers of the Japanese surrender document. After the war he became Chief of Naval Operations until 1947.
